Classic Itinerary: a short walk in the largest historic center in Europe, to discover the "caruggi" (the typical narrow streets of the ancient city) starting from Piazza De Ferrari, with the Carlo Felice Opera House and the Liberty Palace of the Stock Exchange .
A few steps away are the Palazzo Ducale, the ancient seat of the city government, now used for large art exhibitions, and the Chiesa del Gesù, a rich Baroque church that houses works by Guido Reni and Rubens.
Not far away, the medieval Porta Soprana, the House of Columbus and the Cathedral, a splendid Romanesque Gothic church where tradition says the Sacro Catino or Graal is still preserved.
Nearby is the medieval square of San Matteo, a typical example of a Genoese residence.
Continue to Piazza Campetto and Via degli Orefici, still in the areaof ancient charm, full of shops and old patisseries.
We then pass through Piazza Banchi, once the site of the market and money changers, today dominated by the characteristic church of San Pietro, with a painted facade, and made lively by the numerous stalls.
The tour starts to close with Palazzo San Giorgio where the illustrious prisoner Marco Polo is said to have dictated his Million.
A few steps away is the Expo, the Porto Antico, restored by Renzo Piano in 1992 and today the most touristic area of the whole city with the Aquarium, the Bigo and the City of Children.
