Bangkok is one of the most cosmopolitan cities of the East, characterized by strongly contrasting elements such as the large hotels in the center and the traditional wooden houses on stilts that rise on the banks of the Chao Phraya; the ultra-modern office skyscrapers and simple sidewalk stalls; the luxury shopping centers and markets of Chatuchak and Pratunam; the sacredness of the temples and the effervescent nightlife.
All these elements make Bangkok a unique city suspended between modernity and the most ancient oriental traditions.

The Grand Palace was not only the seat of the king and his court but contained the entire administration of the government within its crenellated walls.
The architecture is typically Thai but also contains European elements such as Phra Thinang Chakri Maha Prasat. Brilliantly colored and golden, and decorated with intricate details, the overall effect is dazzling.
The palace was the official residence of the kings of Thailand from the 18th century until the mid-20th century.
The most famous building in the palace is Wat Phra Kaew better known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, considered the holiest temple in Thailand.
Its construction began when King Rama I moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok in 1785. Unlike other Thai temples, it does not contain dwellings for monks, on the contrary, it has only richly decorated sacred buildings, statues and pagodas.

Although green in color, the Buddha is actually carved from a single piece of jade, measuring 45 centimeters in height, and is Thailand's most revered object.
